Becky begun swimming competitively at the age of nine and in 2008 she became Britain’s first Olympic swimming champion since 1988, winning gold in both the 400m and 800m freestyle in Beijing (setting a new World Record in the 800m freestyle). At the home Olympics in 2012 Adlington won bronze in both the 400m and 800m freestyle. She was awarded an OBE at the impressive age of 19 and retired officially from professional swimming in 2013.
Radcliffe is a three-time winner of the London Marathon (2002, 2003, 2005). In 2002 she set her first of three world records for the marathon, breaking the previous women’s world record by a whole minute and a half! In 2002 Radcliffe won Sports Personality Of The Year and was also awarded an MBE. Radcliffe ran her last professional marathon in London in 2015 and she remains our greatest female long distance runner of all time.
